After the officer was caught off guard, Lt. Horelica said he lost control of his bike and crashed. Some good Samaritans nearby saw the off-duty officer down and pulled the bike off of him before a tow truck driver arrived.
The officer was last said to be conscious but injured, so he was rushed to Memorial Hermann.
