Dozens of people were injured in a massive traffic pileup amid snowy conditions in southern Wisconsin on Friday, which blocked Interstate 39/90 for hours, authorities said. An Edinburg man held on $800,000 in bonds is asking for a bond reduction after being accused of killing a woman in a wrong-way crash on Christmas in 2021. Edinburg police charged Otis Charles Barron, 30, with intoxicated manslaughter, accident involving death, two counts of intoxicated assault with vehicle and two counts of accident involving serious bodily injury. The probable cause affidavit states that Barron left his vehicle at the scene and proceeded to travel on foot to a hospital to get medical attention. In addition, Barron allegedly confessed to police to being the driver and leaving the scene of the crash. Barron is set to appear before state District Judge Keno Vasquez Tuesday morning for the hearing.

Three-vehicle crash east of Edinburg leaves one in coma, another flees on foot
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday and left one person in a coma while another ran from the scene. According to DPS, the crash happened around 8:10 p.m. on Alamo Road, south of Texas Road and east of Edinburg, where one man was traveling northbound in a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado behind a Toyota Tacoma. “The Toyota veered to the southbound lanes and collided with a Ford Van,” the release said. The driver of the Ford Van didn’t have any injuries, but the driver of the Toyota Tacoma did sustain major injuries, was transported to a local hospital and is in a coma. Police said the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado fled the scene on foot and failed to stop and render aid.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating an early morning crash on Thursday that left a man dead. In a news release, DPS said the crash happened at approximately 5:09 a.m. on FM 511 north of Florida Road in Brownsville. A preliminary investigation shows that a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria traveling south of FM 511 hit a man who was walking northbound in the middle of the road. The driver of the Ford stopped to render aid, and the unidentified man died at the scene. DPS will release the identity of the man once his next of kin are notified of his death.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash that happened on State Highway 48 Sunday night that left a man dead. “A 2005 GMC Sierra (occupied by one male driver) was traveling eastbound on the outside lanes of SH 48 and collided with the Ford,” the news release stated. “The impact caused the Ford to move onto the westbound lanes of SH 48.”DPS said that a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu occupied only by a man driving it westbound then collided with the Ford, causing its driver to be ejected. The unidentified man was taken to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville where he died. DPS said the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash, which happened in the 1500 block of South 10th Street at about 7:23 p.m. Tuesday, killed 28-year-old McAllen resident Oscar Fernando Hernandez Alba, according to the release. “Two vehicles involved in the collision were a motorcycle and a SUV,” the release stated. “Officers on scene determined the SUV struck the motorcycle.”

As the Mission man tried to stand up, he lost his balance and fell, causing him to sustain a head injury.

According to authorities, Cuestas was traveling northbound on FM 1421 when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway and into a residential property where he struck a tree. Brownsville fire and emergency services managed to extract Cuestas from the vehicle but the driver died at the scene, the release said.

While attempting to evade the Border Patrol agents, the driver of the pick-up truck lost control of the vehicle and entered the center median before coming to a stop. At some point during the pursuit, a 22-year-old man, who was identified as Jesus Adrian Alvarado, was struck by the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. DPS troopers are currently engaged in an investigation in the crash.
