How Houston’s sports teams are responding to lifting of capacity limits, mask mandate
HOUSTON – Sports teams and venues in the Houston area seem to be taking a cautious approach after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott decided to lift capacity limits and the mask mandate starting next week. According to an email sent to season ticket holders, fans will be welcomes back to the stadium in April but in limited numbers. Season ticket holders still have their tickets available and have several options to use them, change them, donate them or pause the account. Houston Dynamo, Dash get new logos and new color
HOUSTON – The Houston Dynamo announced a “new club direction” on Tuesday. The team made the announcement via its website that the new name of the club is “Houston Dynamo FC.” “FC” stands for football club, and is used by several American soccer teams. The women’s team will still be known as the Houston Dash. Rapids down Dynamo late behind Rubio in 2-1 win
(AP) – Diego Rubio scored in extra time and the Colorado Rapids beat the Houston Dynamo 2-1 on Sunday night. Colorado (8-6-4), which clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Portland on Wednesday, enters post-season play for the first time since 2016. Houston (4-9-9) ended the season without a win its last seven contests. Rubio took a pass from Cole Bassett, started his run down the left, planted and fired across his right for the game winner. Younes Namli put the Rapids up 1-0 at the 61st minute before Mauro Manotas evened the score for Houston eight minutes later.
Picault scores twice, FC Dallas beats Dynamo 3-0
FRISCO, Texas – Fabrice-Jean Picault scored twice in FC Dallas' 3-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Franco Jara tapped in a sliding goal off a headed centering pass from Michael Barrios in the 19th minute to give Dallas (8-5-7) the lead. In the 27th minute, Fabrice-Jean Picault headed in a book pass from Andrés Ricaurte. Piicault added one more in the 93rd for the final margin. Houston (4-9-9), which beat Dallas 2-0 on Oct. 7, is winless in six matches.
Crew takes advantage of own goal in a 1-1 tie against Dynamo
(AP) – Victor Rodriguez’s own-goal on a clearing attempt at the 67th minute helped the Columbus Crew salvage a 1-1 tie against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Though the time of possession was largely even, Houston (4-7-9) failed to capitalize on a 24-6 shot advantage against the Crew (10-4-5). Memo Rodriguez put the Dynamo on the board in the 37th minute when he punched in a short shot on a rebound off a deflected save by the keeper. The Dynamo are unbeaten in the last eight meetings between the teams in Houston with the Crew’s last victory coming in 2011.
Houston salvages 2-2 tie with Minnesota United
(AP) – Niko Hansen’s goal in the 83rd minute helped rally the Houston Dynamo to a 2-2 tie with Minnesota United on Sunday night. The Dynamo's (4-7-8) Memo Rodríguez scored in the 59th minute, cutting the their deficit to 2-1. Minnesota United (6-5-6) failed to capitalize on a fast start that included two goals in a 19-minute span in the first half by Ethan Finley. Finley scored at 11 minutes on a well-timed run off a throw-in from midfield. At 30 minutes, Finley started a run and took a feed from Jacori Hayes past a defender, beating the keeper.
Mukhtar scores twice, Nashville beats Houston Dynamo 3-1
HOUSTON – Hany Mukhtar scored two of Nashville’s three first-half goals in a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night. Mukhtar opened the scoring in the 15th minute, and Abu Danladi scored on a header four minutes later. Mukhtar added another one in the 23rd, beating Dynamo goalkeeper Marko Maric on a free kick. Darwin Quintero, who leads Houston with six goals, scored in the 75th minute. Joe Willis made five saves for Nashville, which has allowed just nine goals in its last 11 games.
Morgan scores on penalty kick, Inter Miami beats Houston 1-0
(AP) – Lewis Morgan scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, leading Inter Miami a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night. The shot was set up when Houston's Aljaz Struna committed a foul in the penalty area. Miami (5-10-2) won its second straight and moved within a point of Nashville for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Quintero, Cerén score, short-handed Dynamo beat Dallas 2-0
(AP) – Darwin Quintero and Darwin Cerén scored and the short-handed Houston Dynamo beat FC Dallas 2-0 on Wednesday night. Quintero rolled a left-footer just inside the post in the 20th minute. Houston's Maruo Manotas was shown a straight red card for a serious foul in first-half stoppage time and the Dynamo played a man down the rest of the way. Houston (4-5-7) snapped six-game winless streak dating to a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 5. It was the 30-year-old midfielder's first goal of the season and the fifth of his career.
Pulido, Busio help Sporting KC beat Dynamo 2-1
(AP) – Alan Pulido had his first multi-goal game in MLS, Gianluca Busio had two assists and Sporting Kansas City beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 on Saturday night. Busio played a long through ball to Pulido, who evaded a pair of defenders before putting away a side-netter. Pulido made a sliding first-timer to make it 2-0 in the 73rd. Busio's one-touch pass led Pulido into the area, where he chipped in over sliding goalkeeper Marko Maric. Sam Junqua, a 23-year-old defender, scored his first MLS goal for the Dynamo in the 84th minute.
Beric scores again as Fire beats Dynamo, snaps skid
CHICAGO – Robert Beric scored for the third consecutive game and the Chicago Fire beat the Houston Dynamo 4-0 on Wednesday night. Jonathan Bornstein played a one-touch pass to Beric for a one-touch redirection from 7 yards in the 15th minute. Sapong converted from the spot in the 89th to cap the scoring after Aljaz Struna was called for a foul in the area. Sapong's first penalty kick was stopped but, after video review, goalkeeper Marko Maric was ruled to have come off his line and Sapong put away his second attempt. It was the Fire’s highest-scoring game of the season and just their fourth with more than one goal.
Jara, Ricaurte score to help FC Dallas beat Dynamo 2-1
FRISCO, Texas – Franco Jara and Andrés Ricaurte scored to help FC Dallas beat the Houston Dynamo 2-1 on Saturday night. Ryan Hollingshead tapped it to Michael Barrios, who lofted a one-touch pass to Jara for a half-volley finish to make it 2-1 in the 61st minute. Ricuarte scored his first MLS goal — in his second game — to open the scoring in the 28th minute. Memo Rodríguez tied it for the Dynamo in the 41st, blasting a rising right-footer into the corner of the net of a set piece. Houston (3-3-5) had its six-game unbeaten streak snapped and lost for the first time since a 2-1 loss at Portland on July 18.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. Darwin Quintero scored two goals in four minutes and the Houston Dynamo eased past Sporting Kansas City 5-2 on Tuesday night for their first victory of the season. Quintero sealed it with goals in the 57th, on a give-and-go with Darwin Cern, and 61st. Quintero also had two assists, on goals by Elis and Ramirez, to help coach Tab Ramos get his first victory for Houston. Johnny Russell and Gadi Kinda scored for Kansas City (5-2-0), which still sits atop the Western Conference. Sporting KC announced nearly 2,300 people were in attendance at Childrens Mercy Park for its first home game since March.

HOUSTON The Houston Dynamo outshot FC Dallas 17-7 in a scoreless draw Friday night. The Dynamo had the best scoring chance, with Christian Ramirez's shot from 10 yards stopped by Jimmy Mauer in the 27th minute. Dallas (1-1-3) was playing its third match in 10 days and hasn't scored. Portland reaches knockout stage after 2-1 win over Houston

Manotas got behind the Colorado defense to finish Adam Lundkvist's through ball, pulling the Dynamo (9-13-4) within one in the 74th minute. Five minutes later, Manotas punched home a low pass from Tommy McNamara. Diego Rubio scored twice in the first half for the Rapids (7-13-6). In the 38th minute, Rubio pounced on a lazy back pass and quickly tucked it home to double Colorado's lead.
Houston Dynamo name Wilmer Cabrera as new head coach
HOUSTON – The Houston Dynamo named Wilmer Cabrera as its new head coach. He was previously the first head coach for the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, the Dynamo's United Soccer League affiliate. "I'm really happy to be here and I understand the responsibility of a big club like the Houston Dynamo," Cabrera said. The Dynamo and former head coach Owen Coyle agreed to mutually part ways in March and he left the team in May. The second-year head coach expressed a desire to be closer to his family in England and the club accommodated the request.
