Pedestrian killed, 2 Harris Co. deputies hospitalized after suspected drunk driver hits patrol car blocking crash scene

HOUSTON – A pedestrian is dead and two officers were hospitalized overnight Sunday after blocking the crash site in north Harris County.

It all started at 10 p.m. when deputies with Harris County Sheriff’s Office were called to the crash on the North Freeway where a driver hit an unidentified man trying to cross the freeway. It’s believed the pedestrian was hit once but died from his injuries.

The driver who hit the pedestrian turned around to call 911.

Meanwhile, around 1 a.m., officials said a patrol car blocking the southbound ramp was hit by a suspected drunk driver, identified by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez as Leslie King, 51.

Two deputies were in the car and taken to a hospital as a precaution. King was also hospitalized for minor injuries but the sheriff said he is expected to be charged with driving while intoxicated.

No additional details have been shared, as of this writing, but an investigation remains underway.
