Here’s why global energy leaders will be in Houston this week

HOUSTON – Industry leaders from Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and a host of energy technology firms will converge in Houston for CERAWeek by S&P Global, the world’s premier energy conference.

The event will run through March 10-14, the week of spring break.

The event’s theme this year is called “Moving Ahead: Energy Strategies for a Complex World,” where leaders will explore shifts in policy, technology, and geopolitics shaping the global energy landscape.

Central to this discussion will be the CERAWeek Innovation Agora, a hub for technology and innovation, featuring a diverse lineup of technologists, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, policymakers, and corporate leaders, according to a release.

The Innovation Agora will showcase advancements in AI, decarbonization, low-carbon fuels, cybersecurity, hydrogen, nuclear energy, and more, with presentations from over 250 startups. Programming will include the Voices of Innovation one-on-one conversations, Agora Studio moderated discussions, and Agora Pods featuring live demonstrations and case studies. New for 2025, Agora Hubs will provide dedicated spaces for conversations on carbon, climate, and emerging energy technologies.

New additions to CERAWeek 2025

Two new programming tracks will debut this year:

  • NexGen at CERAWeek will focus on bridging academia and industry to foster emerging talent and fresh ideas in energy transition.
  • The Nexus, a collaborative space for research and development, will showcase innovations from industry leaders, academics, and entrepreneurs. It will serve as the central venue for Agora Studio and Voices of Innovation sessions.

Houston’s role in energy innovation

Houston, known as the “Energy Capital of the World,” remains a focal point for the energy transition.

The Energy Venture Day and Pitch Competition, hosted by The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, the Houston Energy Transition Initiative (HETI), and TEX-E, will feature 40 energy ventures competing before a panel of investors and industry experts.

Other highlights include the Clean Energy Commons, designed to foster collaboration among energy innovators, and the Clean Tech Corridor, where attendees can meet entrepreneurs shaping the industry’s future.
