Investigators learned that a construction crew was working on a sidewalk in the area and the entire right lane was blocked off for safety.
A Nissan Sentra, driven by a 39-year-old man, reportedly disregarded the traffic barrels and fatally struck one of the construction workers. He then struck another worker, causing serious injuries and a third narrowly missed being struck.
Police said the vehicle then hit a utility pole and spun out onto the intersection, striking a Lexus. The driver of the Lexus was not injured.
The driver of the Sentra was detained for signs of intoxication at the scene.
