HOUSTON – Drivers headed toward downtown Houston may need to find another route after an 18-wheeler hit an overpass bridge in the Heights.
Details are limited, as it’s an active scene, but Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X the big truck hit the Houston Avenue overpass bridge on the east Katy Freeway at Taylor.

One of the right outside lanes and the shoulder have been closed as a result.
No other vehicles were impacted by the crash, but traffic is moving at a slow rate, so drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.
CURRENT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS & UPDATES
The Houston Police Department and HCSO are at the scene investigating. Officials with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) were also at the crash site, where they said several right mainlanes would be closed off for several hours while hazmat crews cleaned up the wreckage.
