THE HEIGHTS – One Heights resident wants to warn others about her horrific encounter during her Sunday walk. Lauren Hammelman said a man followed her in a car and then exposed himself and yelled inappropriate things to her before taking off. Now, Hammelman is sounding the alarm and hoping that this man is caught. Hammelman was walking her dogs Sunday evening in the Heights, the neighborhood she has lived in for more than 10 years. “I screamed and ran away with all three dogs.”Hammelman described the driver as a man in his 30s.

HOUSTON – Houston’s art scene is about to get bigger this year. Arts District Houston in Winter Street Studios will open their welcome center this Saturday at 1 p.m., bringing large-scale public art inside and out as a way to support local artists impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, a news release said. The new welcome center is roughly 230 square feet and will feature artwork from a local artist every month, and the grand opening will coincide with Sawyer Yards’ Second Saturday event, where visitors have the chance to meet hundreds of local artists during open studio hours, socially-distanced. Arts District Houston will also serve as a directory for visitors with suggestions of places to do in the area, the release said. Business hours are from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That plant’s going to be just fine,” Kornegay said after performing the test on a plant at his shop. Cut the plant’s limbs or leaves only if they do not pass the scratch test or if the parts are mushy, he said. ”You just cut all of those back and those roots will be just fine,” Kornegay said.

Glass artist Will Jackson at Juggernaut Glass in the Heights took us into his glass-blowing studio to talk about some of the technical aspects of their equipment and tools, the different seasonal craft techniques, and the classes they offer throughout the year. With such a fragile material, often things can break - which can be frustrating…but it also makes the successful projects that much more rewarding and fulfilling. Working glass is a fascinating process, and in Will’s opinion, it’s one of the only art forms where the subject appears more beautiful during creation than the final product. HOUSTON – Employees at The Heights Hospital said they couldn’t get into the building Monday when they showed up for work. “We came to work and we were locked out,” said clinical coordinator Barbie Ortega. One indicates more than $322,000 in back rent, and the other indicates more than $948,000 in back rent. She said patients still showed up so staffers took matters into their own hands, treating what they could in the parking lot. The hospital’s website is currently down and some employees said they do not know if they will still get paid.

Monolith in the Houston Heights area on the corner of 11th and Beverly. HOUSTON – Houstonians in one neighborhood are baffled by the appearance of a silver monolith, similar to those discovered around the world. Residents told KPRC 2 that it showed up in the area about a week ago. “I was surprised,” one resident told KPRC. The first monolith was discovered in San Juan County, Utah on Nov. 18, with several European countries and Africa having reported several similar monoliths.

“Blinking lights and it is loud enough to where it hurts your ears on the inside of your home,” Shearer said. Shearer took to social media to share her concerns not only about the alarm but about work crews she says are creating parking problems along the street. Besides having their alarm company disable the outside alarms, they’re also planning to do more. We’re going to talk to our team about how can we not reverse and maybe go forward and forward out,” said Viers. ”We want to work together to make the Houston Heights the best neighborhood in Houston,” said Shearer.
