Multi-vehicle crash with 18-wheeler hauling beer on North Freeway causes temporary total shutdown

What started out as a major crash resulting in a total freeway shutdown early Thursday morning has ended with the roadway reopened, as Houston police continue to investigate how it all went down.

Details are limited, but it happened just before 4 a.m. when police reported a multi-vehicle crash with an 18-wheeler hauling beer on the North Freeway toward Little York.

Investigators said at least one car suffered serious damage, and another vehicle was a METRO Lift, which may have had a passenger inside when the crash occurred.

We’re told only one person was hospitalized, but the freeway was completely shut down as the big rig took up at least two lanes.

The roadway reopened a little before 6:30 a.m., and police are continuing their investigation to see what factors caused the major crash.
