Authorities identify Texas man who may have been talking to missing Utah teen before disappearance

Authorities have identified a man they believe could be linked to the disappearance of a missing 15-year-old girl in Utah.

Alisa Petrov was last seen in South Jordan, Utah, on April 21, 2025.

Texas City police joined the search with South Jordan PD after receiving a cybertip through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Police believe Alisa was attempting to meet individuals she met online through multiple social media platforms and chat applications.

Officials confirmed that the person they identified was an adult male, but they did not specify whether or not they believe he is the man who last saw her.

Background information

According to South Jordan Police Department, she left her school in American Fork, Utah, on April 21.

She went to a convenience store and bought some items before boarding a southbound train to Provo, where she asked “multiple people” for help getting to Las Vegas. Her parents said that’s the last place she’s known to have been.

“It was a nightmare. We have no contact with Alisa, which is very upsetting. She’s not using her social media that she was really attached to and that’s a big concern for us,” her mother Olga Petrov said, noting that her daughter used several apps.

The family has not been briefed on any developments on the investigation in Texas, they said.

Texas City PD has not confirmed any details of the cybertip, but the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said tips come in from electronic service providers or the public and then get routed appropriately to law enforcement.

“Please come back and whoever is holding her, they should probably just let her go because this is just really wrong, this is not right,” her father Nikolai Petrov said.

Last summer, the couple said they had a talk with their daughter about removing strangers who she had been communicating with on various social media apps.

FBI Salt Lake City confirmed to KPRC 2 News late Friday that they’re assisting South Jordan police with the investigation.

Alisa stands 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 122 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Alisa was possibly heading to Las Vegas, Nevada. She was last seen wearing baggy jeans, a gray “Harvard University” T-shirt, a black hoodie, and carrying a dark school backpack.

Her parents have set up a website about her disappearance.

“We’re really hoping Alisa will see our messages, Alisa will be home. We miss her a lot,” Olga Petrov said.

If you have seen Alisa or know her whereabouts, you’re urged to call 911 or your local police department immediately.
