Man firing gunshots into the ground shot by police in Sugar Land

SUGAR LAND, Texas – A man is being taken to a hospital after he was shot by police officers in Sugar Land.

Officials with the Sugar Land Police Department say this happened in the area of Greatwood Lake and Forestlake Drive.

Police say it happened at around 7:30 p.m., when they received calls from the neighborhood about gunshots.

Three officers responded to the scene and found a man firing gunshots into the ground.

Sugar Land Police Chief Pete Lara said there was a confrontation between the officers and the man and the officers ended up shooting the man.

No officers were hurt in the incident and the man is being transported to a hospital.

Lara was unable to confirm any other details, saying the entire incident is still under investigation.

The man is said to be in his late twenties or early thirties. Lara said officers have been in contact with the man’s family.
