The phone started ringing Tuesday morning, well before Society Cycle Works in Sugar Land opened its doors at noon. The best way to describe it is like a toilet paper syndrome, said Jennie Leverett, co-owner of Society Cycle Works. Every week we stock about 100 bikes and its gone every week within 24 hours, said the bike shop co-owner. People are definitely getting out more, said Kyrah Sytsma who was riding her bike on a Sugar Land trail with her husband and son Tuesday afternoon.

An unlikely casualty of the coronavirus pandemic, independent medical practices are experiencing severe financial strain, according to a Texas Medical Association survey of physicians released Wednesday. The survey analyzed responses from 1,548 Texas physicians and found that 68% of practicing physicians have had to cut work hours, while 62% have had their salaries reduced. From March 1 to May 2, more than 160,000 people in the health care and social assistance industry filed unemployment claims, a Tribune analysis shows. A $334 million lifeline proposed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, which would have increased Medicaid payments to health providers, is still in limbo. The Texas Medical Association has been a financial supporter of The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization that is funded in part by donations from members, foundations and corporate sponsors.

In regards to the jail, the ACLU, 16 Harris County Misdemeanor Magistrate Judges and Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez all filed suit in Travis County Court challenging Abbott's order prohibiting the release of any Harris County jail inmates which countermanded a plan by Hidalgo to release non-violent offenders after a review board vetted them.

2 burglars wanted in string of broad daylight break-ins
Police in Sugar Land and West University are looking for two men accused of burglarizing homes.Surveillance video from earlier this month shows the same suspect in the same getaway car approaching the homes in broad daylight.Investigators believe the suspect knocks on the doors to make sure the owners are not there, then leaves to drive around and enter through back doors.West University police say after breaking a back door to get into a home on Chalice Street, the burglar ransacked the master bedroom and stole jewelry.If you have any information, contact Sugar Land or West University police.
