Applications for subsidized housing at 20 participating apartment complexes across Houston open Thursday, May 1, at 9 a.m. and close Friday, May 16, at 5 p.m.

[May 1 is also when HHA wants every person on the main waitlist to update their information, or risk being removed from the list.]

Housing Assistance Program Details

The program offers site-specific housing subsidies that can only be used at designated participating properties. While HHA has not yet disclosed the locations of these apartment complexes, interested applicants can submit their applications through HHA’s new RentCafe portal at HousingforHouston.com when the application window opens.

Streamlined Application Process

According to HHA officials, these site-specific programs typically feature shorter wait times compared to the traditional Housing Choice Voucher program, which allows recipients to use vouchers at any property where landlords accept them.

How to Apply for Housing Assistance

Prospective applicants should:

  • Visit HousingforHouston.com (starting May 1)
  • Access the RentCafe portal
  • Submit applications between May 1, 9 a.m. and May 16, 5 p.m.

Expanding Housing Options

This initiative represents part of HHA’s ongoing efforts to provide more affordable housing solutions for Houston residents. The site-specific program aims to streamline the process of connecting eligible residents with available housing units.

The complete program details will be available when the application portal opens on May 1. We will keep you updated!
