HOUSTON – Two separate crashes on the 610 West Loop on Wednesday caused a major shutdown for drivers in the Beechnut/Braeswood area.

Police say the first incident involved an unidentified woman who was seriously injured after crashing her car on the southbound side. She was rushed to a hospital, but investigators say she is not expected to survive.

During that investigation, officials said two vehicles hit an unidentified man, 30, on the northbound side.

According to a news release from HPD, witnesses said the man “was crossing the freeway main lanes crawling on his hands and knees.”

The first driver told police he tried to avoid “what he believed to be debris, but struck the male.” A second driver in a truck hit the man shortly afterward.

Both drivers remained at the scene, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. They were questioned by police at the scene and released.

Around 5 a.m., the southbound lanes reopened, but the northbound lanes on West Loop at Beechnut stayed shut down until about 8 a.m.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area or look for alternate routes as officials continue their investigation.
