Mother, father charged after 2-month-old son dies from extensive injuries, trauma in 2024

HOUSTON – Charges have been filed against a man and woman a year after the death of an infant boy who suffered extensive injuries, according to the Houston Police Department.

The suspects, JaMari Mari Bailey, 21, and Marybeth Clarisa Rodriguez, 22, are charged with injury to a child - serious bodily injury.

On June 23, 2024, Bailey and Rodriguez brought their 2-month-old son to an urgent care center as he looked ill. Due to the severity of his injuries, police said the baby was taken to the Texas Children’s Hospital.

Doctors pronounced the baby dead later that same day.

Following further investigation, it was determined the baby had suffered extensive injuries and trauma.

According to court documents, the boy died due to “complications from skull fractures and brain hemorrhaging.”

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted, and charges were filed against Rodriguez and Bailey for their roles in the child’s death.

The couple was arrested without incident on Wednesday, April 9, and booked into the Harris County Jail. Both of their bonds were set at $200,000 each.
