Crews in Santa Fe searching for possible human remains linked to 1983 cold case, authorities confirm

Tonight, crews are digging for evidence on a property in Santa Fe. They confirmed that their search is linked to the disappearance of 14-year-old Sondra Ramber, a cold case that dates back to 1983.

KPRC 2’s Corley Peel spoke with a lieutenant with Santa Fe Police Department, who said they’re hoping to find a body under the home’s garage.

Crews began the searching the garage since 9 a.m. Thursday morning and started drilling and digging up concrete later in the day. Our Sky2 chopper flew over the property earlier today.

Investigators said a new cold case detective took on the case a couple of months ago. They were able to gather enough information to obtain a search warrant for the garage—an area that has never been searched before, according to police.

Texas EquuSearch’s Ground Penetrating radar equipment helped indicate where they should start digging.

The home on this property is not the same one Sondra Ramber lived in, but the garage has remained unchanged since 1983.

Sondra was last seen at her family’s home on Oct. 26, 1983. Investigators report that the door to the home was open, and biscuits were baking in the oven at the time Sondra vanished.

Her father reported her missing the following morning. Authorities initially classified her as a runaway, but the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have remained unclear ever since.

Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch and Lt. Greg Boody with Santa Fe Police Department are hoping this lead will finally bring answers.

“We’re hoping to find something to bring closure to the family and this case because it’s been since ‘83,” Lt. Boody said. “I’ve been here 27 years. It eats us up because it’s still open, and we have no idea what has happened to her.”

I think where we’re at now is probably the best there has been on this case in years," Miller added.
