Community voices support for Texas teen Austin Metcalf, who was stabbed to death at a high school track meet

The Frisco community is voicing support for Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old student at Frisco Memorial High School who was fatally stabbed by a fellow high school student at a track meet.

According to a report by NBC 5, the stabbing happened Wednesday morning at a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. There was a confrontation between Metcalf and another teen that led to him being stabbed.

Jett Metcalf, Austin’s father, reportedly told NBC 5 that the student who was armed with a knife was angered by Austin telling him he was sitting in the wrong spot, which led to the physical altercation.

NBC 5 also learned that Hunter Metcalf, Austin’s twin brother, was near the scene of the attack. He tried to stop the bleeding before first responders arrived.

According to Austin’s X account, he had a 3.97 GPA and played linebacker for the school’s football team. He had been invited to and attended numerous college football camps and had dreams of playing at the next level.

Wednesday night, hundreds gathered at Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco to attend a prayer vigil for Austin.

The student suspected of stabbing Austin was identified as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a student-athlete at Frisco Centennial High School. According to NBC 5’s report, he has been charged with murder.

Austin’s family has started a GoFundMe to raise money to help cover funeral expenses and counseling expenses for Hunter. As of Thursday afternoon, it has raised more than $100,000.
