Vehicle seen speeding away after man struck, killed in north Houston neighborhood

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a vehicle was seen speeding away from a crash that left a man dead Tuesday afternoon.

The hit-and-run crash was reported at 12:50 p.m. in a north Houston neighborhood, located in the 4200 block of Chapman and Egypt streets.

Houston police learned that a man was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash. A vehicle of interest was caught on camera speeding off from the scene.

Lt. Va’Shawnda McLean described the vehicle as a red Cadillac Escalade. She said the impact was not caught on video, but you could hear the impact and shortly afterwards see the Escalade speeding away from the area on the video.

Family members identified the man killed as 61-year-old Everett J. Smith.
