HOUSTON – A serval, a wild cat native to Africa, was rescued from the garage of a Houston home.
A team of Harris County Precinct 1 Animal Cruelty Investigators, Houston SPCA, and Houston BARC responded to the rescue.

An anonymous tip led authorities to the home, located in the 700 block of W. Tidwell Road.
Caretakers told investigators that they had rescued the serval from neglect. The cat was taken to the Houston SPCA for evaluation, treatment, and temporary holding.
Veterinary professionals expressed medical concerns for the wild cat.
A court hearing has been scheduled to determine whether the accused owners will retain ownership.
The investigation will be forwarded to Texas Parks & Wildlife and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for further review regarding potential illegal wildlife trafficking.
