Southside Houston home destroyed after speeding driver crashes SUV through home

HOUSTON – A woman’s home on Houston’s southside was destroyed overnight Friday after an SUV crashed into it, ripping off an entire side of the house.

Witnesses told police they saw an unidentified man speeding down the road on Sunflower Street and Mclean Street around 1:30 a.m.

Houston Police said the man wasn’t able to stop in time and ended up hitting the side of the house and ripping through it before coming to a stop in the backyard.

Investigators said the driver was trapped inside his SUV and had to be extricated by the Houston Fire Department. He was then rushed to a nearby trauma center and was last said to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the homeowner said while her house is destroyed, she’s just glad her daughter and grandchildren were not home at the time of the crash.

No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, so it’s unclear if any charges will be filed or what penalties that driver will be facing.
