HOUSTON – A Harris County deputy and a man Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described as “acting erratically” died Thursday morning after an incident where the man was reportedly damaging gas pumps on North Freeway before fighting with officers.
Details are limited, but the Sheriff said two of his deputies were called to a gas station on North Freeway and West Road, where witnesses reported an unidentified man “acting erratically, damaging the pumps.” When officers arrived, Sheriff Gonzalez said the man refused to listen to the officer’s commands and started fighting with them.

At the scene, deputies did not identify the two officers by name but described them as a man and woman, the former having 7 years on the force while the latter had 15 years.

The male officer suffered face injuries during the fight, and both deputies shot the man. Both men were taken to the hospital, but HCSO investigators confirmed their unidentified suspect died from his injuries.
