Lieutenant Troy Teller told KPRC 2 that after investigating with the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force, the 2022 Dodge Charger will be returned to Emerita Diaz today.
According to Lt. Teller, the previous owner of the Charger fell back on payments on the car and left it at a handicapped spot at their apartment complex without a permit in July 2024.
For that reason, he said the apartment complex towed the car and the previous owner reported it stolen to the Maryland Heights Police Department two days later.
Lt. Teller said investigators were able to determine Diaz and her brother-in-law bought the Charger legitimately.
Additionally, a CarFax report KPRC 2 obtained shows the Charger went to auction last August. Lt.Teller confirmed the auction house the car went to was Manheim Houston.
It’s unclear though if Manheim Houston or the dealership, Robbins Chevrolet, knew the car was reported stolen.
