SPRING, Texas – An 11-year-old boy tragically died Thursday evening after falling in a Spring area creek, investigators say. First responders went in after him when he did not resurface.
According to the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office, the search happened in the 3700 block of Cypresswood Drive. The constable’s office says the child fell into Cypress Creek.
Capt. S. Wilson with the Harris Co. Sheriff’s Office said deputies came out to the scene to assist the Constable’s Office, along with their dive team.
They eventually found the little boy, who sadly, did not survive.
Klein ISD has identified the child as Braydin Barlow-Buirs, a 6th grader at Strack Intermediate.
“This loss has deeply impacted our school family, and we are grieving alongside the student’s loved ones,” the principal said in a letter to parents. “We extend our most sincere condolences to the family during this unimaginably difficult time.”
It’s unclear how the child fell, but a woman who spoke to KPRC 2 says her 9-year-old godson was with Braydin and the elder boy had jumped into the water when he saw the 9-year-old in distress. The 9-year-old was able to get out, but Braydin didn’t resurface.
Another woman told KPRC 2’s T.J. Parker that Braydin was with a group of neighborhood kids when this happened.
“Apparently they were playing ball so they came home from school and they were all they got together then they were playing ball and then all of a sudden ended up here,” Yesenia Villasana said. “Don’t know what time they decided to come over here, but they ended up here.”
No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but HCSO is asking for patience and respect for the family as their investigation continues.
“This is a tragic event and our heartfelt condolences go out to everybody involved and the family,” Capt. Wilson said. “For the sake of the family, this is the only information we’re going to give at this time, please respect their privacy.”
