KPRC 2 documentary premieres one year after Audrii Cunningham’s disappearance, murder

‘Finding Audrii’ streams Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on KPRC 2+

LIVINGSTON, TexasThis event has passed, but you can stream ‘Finding Audrii’ on demand here.

Audrii Cunningham was an everyday 11-year-old girl growing up in Livingston, Texas.

But what happened to her on February 15, 2024, was anything but normal.

FULL STORY: Finding Audrii: A story of tragic loss and lasting legacy

Audrii, who lived with her grandparents near Lake Livingston, was a kind-spirited and loving person, her family tells KPRC 2′s Gage Goulding.

She befriended the man her grandparents allowed to live in a trailer behind their home: Don Steven McDougal. He moved in after convincing Audrii’s family that he was trying to start a new chapter of his life after a lengthy criminal history. They agreed to help him.

After two years, McDougal turned on the family who opened their arms and their home to him. He kidnapped Audrii and brutally murdered her, dumping her body in the Trinity River, just south of the Lake Livingston Dam.

Audrii’s story captivated the Houston area - and the nation.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers and search crews spent five days combing miles of river and land.

On Thursday night, in a KPRC 2 Original documentary ‘Finding Audrii,’ the man who found Audrii takes us back to the spot where her body was discovered, walking us through the bone-chilling moment.

“When I got that image and I said, ‘By God, that’s her. I know it. I know it’s her, I know it’s her,’” said Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch.

Her family opens up in an exclusive interview, including Audrii’s father, who’s never spoken publicly about his daughter’s disappearance and death.

“She was like my first little girl. You know, first child,” said Audrii’s father, Joshua Cunningham. “I just turned 18. So, my entire adult life has been being a father. And I’m glad that I was given that opportunity.”

In this 30-minute documentary, we’re also exploring the proposed law named after Audrii that could change the way the Texas legal system works, eliminating a loophole that allows sexual offenders to avoid registering on the national sex offender list thanks to a plea deal.
