‘My family is stuck in 2024:’ Daughter of hit-and-run victim pleads for public’s help

More than two months after a woman was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in west Houston, police are renewing their plea for help in solving the case.

Crime Stoppers of Houston and the Houston Police Department held a press conference Thursday morning to ask for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible for the hit-and-run death of Lilia Vazquez Nunez.

Nunez was struck and killed around 6:43 a.m. on December 13, 2024, while running on Westpark Drive in West Chase. Police say the driver was heading westbound when they hit Nunez and fled the scene without stopping to help.

Ariana, Lilia Vazquez Nunez’s eldest daughter, stood before cameras and pleaded with the public to help identify the driver responsible for her mother’s death.

“Since December 13th, my family and I have been restless, trying to figure out how to move forward without any answers,” Ariana said. “If the driver had stayed at the scene and tried to help my mom, none of this would be happening.”

Ariana described the pain of reliving December 13th over and over again, unable to move forward without justice.

“My family is still stuck in 2024 and will be reliving December 13th over and over again until the driver of this truck is found,” she said. “I wonder if the driver of this truck has been able to live their life normally or if they’re being haunted by the events of December 13th like I am.”
