NRG Energy named first official sponsor for FIFA World Cup 2026 in Houston

HOUSTON – With all of Houston staring anxiously counting down the days until the FIFA World Cup in 2026, NRG Energy has signed as the first official supporter.

In a news release, NRG Energy Inc. announced how excited it was to have seven international soccer matches in Houston at its stadium with the same name.

As part of the partnership, Reliant, also an NRG company, will be hosting a series of youth soccer clinics with RISE Soccer Club, which will provide a hands-on learning experience for the next generation of players.

It will also allow them to learn from former U.S. Men’s National Team player, Clint Dempsey, who will make a special appearance and inspire participants as he shares his expertise and insight with fans.

“Our partnership with the World Cup Houston Host Committee marks an important moment for NRG and the city of Houston,” Gin Kinney, NRG Chief Administrative Officer said in a news statement. “This collaboration aims to elevate soccer’s presence in Houston and inspire greater youth participation in the sport. Together, we are bringing the excitement of world-class soccer to Houston and celebrating this moment to drive impact where it matters most – right here in our hometown.”

“The World Cup will be significant for Houston,” Chris Canetti, President of FIFA World Cup 26 Houston Host Committee added. “NRG has been on board from the very beginning. They were our first sponsor, and their support has been integral to the Host Committee’s success. We’re thrilled with NRG’s commitment to the sport, especially as we work together to grow the game of soccer.”
