MISSOURI CITY, Texas – An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing teenage girl from Missouri City.
According to the Missouri City Police Department, Serenity Turner-Douglas was last seen leaving Elkins High School shortly before noon on Monday and getting into a silver SUV with possible license plate number VTW-6019.
Texas DPS says she was last seen wearing a grey jacket, black pants, black shoes, and carrying a pink or rainbow backpack.
Douglas is believed to be with 31-year-old Megan LeCour. LeCour is Serenity’s biological mother, according to her adoptive mother.
The Missouri City Police Department says the investigation stems from a possible child custody dispute.
Serenity’s adoptive mother, Keya, says she went to Elkins High School Monday after Serenity didn’t arrive home like usual on the school bus. She learned Serenity had missed her last two classes that day. She said surveillance video showed Serenity getting into the back of the SUV.
Keya is not sure how Serenity was able to leave during the school day, but said later investigators found Serenity had posted a photo on Instagram with a sibling that doesn’t live with her.
Serenity does take medicine for mental health issues, according to police.
Keya says LeCour is Serenity’s biological mother, but she doesn’t have custody rights for Serenity.
“I’ve actually been praying, staying, prayed up. But overall, I can’t sleep. I’ve been back and forward speaking with the Missouri City Police Department, trying to help them as much as I can,” Keya said. “I don’t feel like that she’s in a safe environment right now.”
KPRC 2 has reached out to Fort Bend ISD for more information about what unfolded at the school, but we haven’t heard back yet.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Missouri City Police Department.
