Houston’s garbage collection schedule to change over holidays

Christmas week is finally here!

With all the chaos associated with the holiday season, several of the City of Houston’s services will be changing their schedules this week, including the Solid Waste Management Department.

Here’s what that will look like:

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

  • Dec. 24: All facilities will be closed, and curbside recycling will not be available, but garbage will still be collected. Important: Curbside recycling and yard waste collection scheduled for Monday and Tuesday will occur on your next regular collection day.
  • Dec. 25: No collections on Christmas Day! Important: Bulk waste collection will be delayed this week.

The rest of the workweek

  • Dec. 26: The recycling and garbage routes from Christmas Day will be serviced Thursday, and all facilities will be open!
  • Dec. 27: Recycling and garbage will be collected! Thursday’s bulk waste routes will also be serviced Friday.

New Year’s Day

  • Jan. 1: All facilities will be closed, and garbage will not be collected on New Year’s Day. Recycling and garbage routes from New Year’s Day will be service Thursday, Dec. 2. Important: Tree waste collection will be delayed this week.
