The regulation, in place for years, is intended to maintain a safe workplace for employees and customers. Violations can result in severe consequences, including job termination and potential criminal prosecution.
Some confusion about the policy recently arose due to a Florida district court decision that was misinterpreted by some as striking down the USPS gun ban. However, postal officials clarified that the case involved a different federal law and had no impact on USPS regulations.
