DEER PARK, Texas – A few Pasadena police officers took it upon themselves to check on a home that was a few yards away from a large pipeline fire in Deer Park.
KPRC 2 reporter Bill Barajas was at the scene to capture the moments and details of what happened.
The officers said they were watching the news from home when they saw a house, about 100 yards away from the fire, staring to be impacted.
Even though no calls were made to the department, the officers took efforts into their own hands by responding to the home. They kicked open to backdoor and to their surprise -- and relief -- found a puppy named Baxter.
After rescuing the dog, the homeowner was contacted by officers and the fire department. She told KPRC 2 ‘s Bill Barajas how thankful she was for their efforts as she had no idea how bad the fire was. She said she is extremely grateful they saved her dog while she was at work at a nearby elementary school.
