You can still feel the sadness in his sighs - Bob Carreiro is a tired man.

He’ll be the first to tell you he’s worn out from a lifetime of missing his little girl, Kynara, who was just 7 years old when an unimaginable act of brutality stole her life - and his - more than three decades ago.

“I love my little girl,” says Carreiro. “She’d say, ‘Daddy come swing with me.’ And I’d go swing. And she’d say, ‘Daddy, help me with my homework.’ And I’d go lay on the floor and help her with homework.”

Back then, one of their neighbors on their quiet northwest Harris County street was a man named Rex Warren Mays, who sometimes performed as ‘Uh-Oh the Clown’ entertaining children at parties.

But on July 20, 1992, Mays’ dark side took over.

Just hours after being fired from his job, Mays stabbed Kynara and her best friend, 10-year-old Kristin Wiley, in a middle-of-the-day attack so violent - so heartless - our community would never be the same.

Explore this pivotal case in Harris County history in this week’s all-new episode of the KPRC 2 Investigates true crime docuseries ‘The Evidence Room.’ From crime scene photos to a killer’s cold confession - you won’t want to miss a minute.

‘The Evidence Room’ is now in its fifth season.

The original true crime docuseries produced by KPRC 2 Investigates received national honors from the 44th Annual Telly Awards in 2023. The Telly Awards honors “innovative, inclusive, and disruptive work that breaks through the static.”
