Child found unharmed after mother killed in murder-suicide outside Texas Children’s Hospital-west campus, HPD says

HOUSTON – A woman has died after being shot by a suspect who then turned gun on himself in the parking lot of Texas Children’s Hospital in west Harris County, according to the Houston Police Department.

It happened at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

The suspect is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. The woman was taken inside the hospital in critical condition but later died.

Police said an 8-year-old girl was found uninjured at the scene and is the daughter of the shooting victim. Investigators believe that the woman and her child were at the hospital to seek medical attention unrelated to the shooting.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Houston police are investigating the possible murder-suicide.

The victim and suspect identities have not been released. Police said the two were possibly in a dating relationship prior to the shooting.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

The hospital is secured and open for those in need, according to TCH - west campus.
