GALVESTON, Texas – The man charged with murdering Harris County Precinct 4 Cpl. Maher Husseini talked about government and international conspiracies during a 40-minute jailhouse interview with KPRC 2 Investigates. During the interview, Athir Murady avoided answering direct questions about Husseini’s Sept. 3 murder and the charges filed against him.
Murady spoke at length about a conspiracy to plant operatives into law enforcement agencies with orders to kill police officers. He also spoke about the 9/11 terrorist attack, the Jan. 6th US Capitol attack, George Floyd, Kamala Harris and the Iraqi police. Murady rattled off dates and names while speaking at a rapid pace and claiming he was chosen as a “patsy” to have his private security businesses taken over by a government operative who wanted to further the drug trade.
However, when asked directly about Houston police stating he was captured on camera shooting Husseini multiple times and identified by at least one eyewitness, Murady was clear when answering, “sir, those questions will be answered by my attorney.” No recording devices are allowed inside the jail and interviews are conducted via teleconference.
Murady is being held without bond in the Galveston County jail on felony evading arrest charges. His court appointed attorney, Winston Cochran, said he has spoke with his client. Cochran said based on those conversations he will be asking the court to conduct a mental health evaluation on his client.
Murady is facing murder charges in Harris County and was recently appointed an attorney to represent him in that case. Defense attorney Lindsay Lopez sent KPRC 2 the following statement:
“I have contacted the court and we are in the process of having him bench warranted back to Harris County to address his murder charge. I would ask the citizens of Harris County to give Mr. Murady the same presumption of innocence that is afforded each and every defendant who has been charged with a crime. I have communicated with my client’s attorney who is representing him on his evading arrest charge, Mr. Cochran. I am aware of the concerns that have been raised regarding Mr. Murady’s mental health. There are several issues that need to be investigated in this case including the relationship of the parties and Mr. Murady’s mental health. Clearly, there is more to this story.”
