Buckle up! We’re in store for a major temperature shift starting Tuesday that will say good bye to spring and hello to some serious summer heat!
Why so hot?
We’ve been sitting under the influence of an area of low pressure across parts of Louisiana that has brought in a nice, dry north wind for the past few days.
What’s causing this heat?
However, as this low begins to meander off into the Ohio Valley, it will be replaced by a very stout area of high pressure. A hot high pressure ridge that will build into the Gulf from Mexico through mid-week.
Normally, this is more typical of a pattern that we would see deep in the depths of a hot Houston summer, thus the July-like feel that we’ll all be under starting on Tuesday.
Part of the problem of a rapid rise in temps is that it usually comes with a nasty amount of humidity. Which, we will see plenty of with a steady stream of air coming right in from the Gulf.
Factor in the intense heat and now, humidity making it feel more like the upper 90s to low 100s, some groups susceptible to heat illnesses may need to take extra precautions, since we’re not acclimated to this quick return to hot summer temps.
Long-range models aren’t very favorable for this nasty pattern to break down anytime soon so be ready to sizzle through the weekend and please make sure you’re taking care of yourself, any elderly neighbors that might not have central A/C and don’t forget fresh water for the pets!
