Severe Risk includes less SE Texas: Here’s what communities have the best chance at storms

Severe Threat southwest of Houston

Today’s severe risk has moved farther to the south, it only includes Matagorda, Colorado, southwest Brazoria, and Wharton counties. The level remains 1 out 5 which means those counties have an isolated chance to see strong to severe thunderstorms that may produce gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy downpours.

Alerts:

  • Flood warning for Polk, San Jacinto, and Walker County
1/5 is the severe risk level

The change is because storms and showers continue to trend less intense and farther to the south for Thursday evening through Thursday night.

The storms’ positioning will also depend on the current storm’s movement from West Texas to the east and storms in South Texas moving northeast.

Rain coverage will be less overnight if showers break apart from the western Texas storms. South Texas storms are moving northeast, but if they change more easterly, we could see the heaviest and most widespread move into the Gulf.
