Timeline of heavy downpours expected across Houston Wednesday

Watching a chance for spotty to scattered storms and showers

Wednesday’s rain chances are up to 60%. Why the hike in rain?

A kink of energy, known as a shortwave, is moving through the Jetstream, combined with ample moisture that can lead to locally heavy downpours.

Be mindful that any heavy downpours may lead to ponding or minor street flooding, especially in areas that saw over 2 inches from Sunday and Monday.

Spotty showers and storm chances in the morning, but storm chances will likely last at least through 4 PM, starting west and moving southeast. You can’t rule out some storms that briefly turn strong, developing gusty winds, but there is no widespread threat of severe storms.

However, there is still uncertainty on the exact timing, and the storm may arrive before 9 AM; if that is the case, we could see slowdowns during the morning commute.

Lunch will need to be inside Wednesday as the showers and storms come over Houston. Evening hours there is still a chance for some spotty showers and storms.
