It’s dry in Houston, should we worry about a drought?

What drought conditions look like across SE Texas

HOUSTON, Texas

HOUSTON, Texas – With less than a quarter of an inch of rain dropped this month, I wanted to update everyone on drought conditions across southeast Texas.

The drought monitor is updated every Thursday. It considers precipitation, temperature, streamflow, reservoir levels, soil moisture, and the amount of moisture that may evaporate.

There has been no change in Southeast Texas on the drought monitor compared to last week. Most of Harris County remains normal. Coastal Harris County, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend Montgomery, Walker, and Grimes counties have abnormally dry conditions.

Brazos, most of Wharton, Matagorda, Colorado, and Washington counties are under moderate drought.

No change compared to last week. Most of SE Texas not under any drought conditions.

The forecast doesn’t favor improvement; there will be no good drenching rain over the next seven days.

I wouldn’t worry yet the upper level heat ridge keeping things dry and hot should weaken by the end of the month, hopefully bringing more chances for rain to drop in SE Texas.

No rainy days for southeast Texas
