April’s full moon is called the Pink moon. However, don’t expect a pink color when you step outside to view it. The name originates from the spring blooming of a pink wildflower, creeping phlox.
Outside of the cool name, the Pink Moon will also be the year’s smallest full moon; astronomers call it a micro moon. While the human eye won’t notice the difference, the moon appears smaller because its placement is the farthest point in its orbit around the Earth.
So when can you spot the full moon?
Pull out the lawn chairs and cameras on Saturday, April 12th.
The peak illumination is at 7:22 PM.
The great news is the weather calls for clear skies!
