HOUSTON – It’s a warm and windy Wednesday according to KPRC’s meteorologist Justin Stapleton. Prepare for more than just sunshine today, as wind advisories have been issued across several areas. Here’s what you need to know to stay ahead of the weather.
Wind advisories are in effect
The wind is one of the main talking points today, with gusts expected to reach 30 to 35 mph. Sustained winds will be close to 20 to 25 mph.
Because of this, wind advisories are in place from Beaumont to Chambers County, including parts of Harris County near the bay, extending down to Matagorda. These advisories will remain until 5 p.m.
Unseasonably warm temperatures
Temperature-wise, it could be a record-tying day as afternoon highs are expected to reach 88 degrees, just shy of tying the existing record of 89 degrees. These warm conditions are a result of gusty winds coming off the Gulf, and they are expected to stick around all week.
Severe weather risk north of us
While most of the severe weather threat will stay to the north, with areas like Dallas-Fort Worth and parts of the Mid-South potentially seeing thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hail, there's always a chance things could shift. Locally, scattered showers may pop up, particularly across northern counties, with a slight increase in storm activity expected later in the week.
