Check out what has changed for Houston’s forecast as the storm approaches

Rain still expected late week for Houston

rain total and severe threat updates

Rain is still forecast for Thursday, so dust off the umbrellas and find the ponchos. The first forecast differences are where the heaviest rain will set up.

A low-pressure system will bring in rounds of rain and thunderstorms, but the heaviest and steadiest rain is now forecasted to set up south and southwest of Houston.

Low pressure brings rain and storms

There is a moderate flood risk, including Corpus Christi, Port Lavaca, and Palacios, with rain totals ranging from 4 to 8 inches from Wednesday through Friday. However, some spots could exceed 8 inches.

The greater Houston area is likely to pick up 1 to 2 inches, with areas north of Huntsville less than an inch, and communities in Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Matagorda south of I-10 could come closer to 3 inches.

Rain totals will vary. Highest rain totals will likely be southwest of Houston.

This healthy amount of rain may lead to street flooding, especially where rain moves over the same area repeatedly.

Moderate or 3/4 flood risk across Palacios to Corpus Christi.
2/4 flood risk for most of SE Texas

The following change is that southeast Texas has a lower severe weather threat for Thursday. Severe storms will be more isolated instead of numerous and the threat for hail, damaging winds and tornadic activity is also less likely for southeast Texas.

1 out 5 severe level for SE Texas. This threat has lowered in the last 24 hours.
