Weekend Weather Forecast: Parades, Beads, and Rain, oh my!

Mardi Gras! Galveston is from February 21st-March 4th

Friday kicks off Mardi Gras Galveston festivities (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

With Mardi Gras! Galveston starting their festivities this weekend, we wanted to give you a look into what your weather forecast will be, so you know how to be prepared.

Spoiler alert: it doesn’t look all that great...

Friday:

Pesky cloud cover will stick with us throughout the day on Friday as a coastal low-pressure system moves closer to SE Texas. This will keep the temperatures on the island near the mid 40s by the afternoon.

Hold onto those beads as the breezy north winds that we’ve seen over the last few days continue to be a nuisance, making it feel like it’s only in the low 30s after the sun sets.

You’ll definitely want to keep those jackets and scarves in tow for The Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade at 8:30 PM and the Mardi Gras! Galveston Parade at 10 PM.

I know it’s not ideal, but the good news is that it’s the one day without rain.

Saturday:

Friday may be cooler, but Saturday looks to be as rowdy as the crowds lining the Galveston streets.

We warm up slightly - we’ll struggle to get near 50°, but rain chances build up the later into Saturday we get.

A jacket will still be needed, as well as that umbrella.

Here’s your Storm Tracker 2 Futuretrack radar timeline for rain during the packed day of events!

  • 11 AM: The Jolly Jester Jaunt 5k

Isolated shower activity picks up in the early morning hours of Saturday, as the low shifts eastward.

The Jolly Jester Jaunt 5k should be mostly dry but you may want to bring a rain jacket just in case with the chance of passing showers, so you don’t have to carry an umbrella.

  • 12 PM: Mystic Krewe of Aquarius Parade

After the 5k has wound down, rounds of rain move through during the afternoon hours.

Most looks to be fairly light in nature, but an umbrella will be needed throughout the day.

  • 1 PM: 14th Annual Zaniest Golf Cart Parade

When the Golf Cart Parade starts, things look to be dry!

  • 3 PM: Krewe D’iHeart Media Art Car and Jeep Parade

Unfortunately, the heaviest round of rain for Saturday comes at the time of the Car and Jeep Parade.

  • 6 PM: Krewe of Gambrinus Parade

We continue to see intermittent rounds of rain as we head into the evening hours.

Activity slows down to start off the 6pm hour (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)
  • 7 PM and beyond: Concerts and Entertainment

More rounds of rain to close out the second day of Mardi Gras! Galveston are possible.

Light activity to the north and south of the island around the 8pm hour (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)
Heavy downpours are possible in the later evening hours for the concerts (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

Sunday:

Unfortunately, Sunday won’t be much better than Saturday - at least to start out.

More rounds of rain are possible from the early morning hours until 12 PM.

Rain moves out of the area by Sunday afternoon (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

Once the rain moves out of the area, we keep the cloud cover to close out the first weekend of Mardi Gras! Galveston. We stay fairly cool too - about 11° below the average.

TL;DR:

If you want the short and sweet version of this forecast, expect a warm-up in temperatures and rain chances increase into the weekend. A jacket and umbrella would be the perfect accessories to the beads!
