After dry and cold conditions, Houston is in for wet and warmer weather this weekend. Here’s when you’ll need the umbrella.
Ahead of a coastal low-pressure system, clouds increase across southeast Texas. Friday evening into Friday night is when south-central Texas begins to see showers and a chance for light freezing drizzle that may continue into Saturday morning. Watch for slick spots if you are heading west - the freezing drizzle could leave a light glaze across portions of I-35 and I-10.
If you plan to celebrate Mardi Gras in Galveston, prepare to wear a poncho with your beads.
From Saturday morning through Saturday night, we are tracking light showers that will go from spotty to widely scattered.
Not only will it rain, but it will be chilly, with temperatures only in the 40s during the day and upper-30s at night.
The rain continues on Sunday; the difference will be the temperatures. Highs will be closer to the 60s instead of the 40s.
Sunday morning will bring more rain. There is even a risk for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon that could lead to heavy downpours in spots.
Thankfully, the thunderstorms do not look to bring any tornadic activity. Models have a good consensus that showers and storms will come to an end late Sunday afternoon.
