There is a severe weather risk with strong storms expected ahead of a cold front that will dramatically drop our temperatures from the mid-70s Saturday to the mid-50s Sunday.

FORECAST: Houston, buckle up for roller coaster temperatures and severe Saturday storms

We’ll watch the entire area to ensure you and your family are safe today with an added focus on areas like Piney Woods, Crockett, Livingston, and surrounding areas. The severe weather outlook has shifted a little to the east since we started updating you this morning at 6 a.m., so these storms and the timing - are still a little fluid, but that’s why we will update you throughout the storm with the latest information.

We’ll continue to monitor the front that has already brought cooler temperatures to the north, including Dallas and Austin. Today’s high will be in the mid-70s, but as the cold air moves in overnight, temperatures will drop, bringing a high in the mid-50s tomorrow.

10 a.m.

You can see by the 10 a.m. hour that places like Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio are in the 50s while we’re still in the upper 60s, waiting for the colder air to reach us Sunday morning. Today’s high will be 76, but tomorrow’s high will only be 58 due to the cold front. Be sure to wear your coat tomorrow—it’s going to be cold and windy, making it feel even colder!

This morning began with a dense fog advisory and light rain, but precipitation is expected to increase this afternoon between 1 and 7 p.m. Areas north of I-10 could see 2-3 inches of rain, while areas south may receive around 1.5 inches. There’s also a chance for downpours, gusty winds, and possibly even hail. If storms develop, we’ll provide updates outside of our regular news coverage.

1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

We’re tracking rain throughout the day, but the chance for heavier rain and severe weather—especially between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.—will increase around 3 p.m. for areas like Katy, Conroe, and Livingston.

A line of showers starts to intensify at 6 p.m. from Angleton, Pearland, Liberty, and areas to the north as it moves to the east, slowly, by 7.
