A cold front will move into the area this evening from the NW To the SE. Along the front we can see some isolated strong storms with frequent lightning strikes and the chance of an isolated damaging wind gust.

The storms will begin to impact our far NW counties as early as 10PM.

The front will continue to advance to the east through the night with storms passing through the Houston metro between 2AM-5AM. These storms can bring frequent lightning strikes, so many might be woken up by thunder early Saturday.

There is a low threat for street flooding as these storms pass through. Any thunderstorm can quickly drop an inch or more of rainfall.

The storms will be pushing east of Houston by 7AM and will be well to the east of Houston by 9AM Saturday morning. This means if you wake up late Saturday you’ll likely completely miss the storms!

Hurricane Rafael:

Rafael has moved back out over the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane. As we have been forecasting this week, Rafael is moving into some rougher conditions and is expected to slowly downgrade over the next few days.

As Rafael moves into the Central Gulf it will get blocked by a cold front. That front will slow it down, stall it briefly and then steer it toward Mexico.

There is no threat to us. Three will be zero direct impacts to SE Texas outside of elevated rip currents and rough seas through the weekend.

Strong Fall Cold Front:

It has been a very warm Autumn. For the month of October we were nearly 4° above average and so far in November we’ve been in the mid-and-upper 80s every day. This is NOT normal. Our normal high this time of year should be in the mid-70s.

Changes are coming as it finally looks like we will see our first big fall front next week. Our current timing brings the cold front through next Wednesday. This will bring a rain chance but more importantly this will bring a big cool down.

This cold front will be noticeable as it moves through with a dramatic drop in temperatures, humidity and wind shift. This will also drop highs down into the upper-60s and lower-70s. Lows will drop to the upper-40s and 50s.

The timing of the cold front could shift slightly, but we are fairly confident that we will finally have a healthy cool down next week.

10-day Forecast:

Temperatures will finally cool down into the 70s toward the end of next week. It should feel fall fantastic!
