Hurricane Rafael:

Rafael became a major hurricane on Wednesday afternoon before making landfall in Cuba. It is now entering the SE Gulf of Mexico. This is the first hurricane in the Gulf in November since 1985 (nearly 40 years!).

Rafael will move into the Central Gulf but will be influenced by a cold front that will block Texas. This will steer the storm either south to Mexico, or east into the Southeast. Neither scenario has direct impacts to SE Texas outside of elevated rip currents and rough seas.

Rafael became a category three storm Wednesday. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)
10-day Forecast:

The same front steering Rafael east of Texas will also bring cooler temperatures to Houston by Sunday. Another cold front is expected next Wednesday, and this one could be our strongest fall front yet. We’ll keep you updated.
