Major downtown Houston expansion: New convention facility and entertainment district planned

Downtown Houston is set for a major transformation as Houston First unveils plans for a new 700,000-square-foot convention facility near the George R. Brown Convention Center. In addition, Toyota Center will get a 100,000-square-foot plaza, and an entertainment district with nightlife and retail shops is in the works to attract more visitors and events to the city.
