Most recently, the average was hovering around $3.50. If you plan to travel by car, drivers should avoid the afternoon hours on both Thursday and Friday. Many will notice more vehicles on the road with a mix of evening commuters and those heading out of town.

- Thursday: Before 11 a.m.
- Friday: Before noon or After 7 p.m.
- Saturday: Afternoon
Returning Home? Best times to return:

- Tuesday: After 1 p.m.
If you are heading to the airport, be sure to arrive two hours early. More than 800,000 passengers are expected at Houston airports for the Labor Day travel period. Stay Safe!
