HOUSTON โ Family members of the victims were in the courtroom Tuesday, including the husband and father of the woman killed. Family members of victims Porsha Branch, 28, and her three children, ages seven months, 5, and 2, were visibly upset when authorities brought the suspect into the courtroom. Daniel Canada, 35, faces four counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. According to Harris County officials, Canada was drunk with a blood-alcohol level of at least .15 when he slammed into another car, killing a mother and her three children. The fiery crash resulted in a seven-car pileup on Sunday night.
Former HISD special ed student claims he was sexually assaulted by fellow student
HOUSTON โ A former student at Cesar Chavez High School claims in a lawsuit filed against the Houston Independent School District that he was sexually assaulted by a fellow student. โHe was repeatedly raped in a bathroom by another student at HISD and he reported this to his teacher,โ Feldman said. AdFeldman said HISDโs position seems to call in to question the former studentโs credibility because of his disability. In this case, it is alleged that a student was sexually assaulted by another student and that a teacher was aware of the harm but did nothing in response. It is HISDโs position that the minimum legal requirements for a claim under Title IX have not been met in this case.

Pregnant woman accused in road rage shooting to appear in court Tuesday
HOUSTON โ A pregnant woman accused in a Friday road rage shooting is set to appear in court Tuesday after previously appearing in court over the weekend. The alleged road rage incident began at 12:45 p.m. Friday near JFK and Beltway 8 and ended in the 500 block of Rankin Road. Deputies said they began sideswiping each other with their vehicles and thatโs when Daniels got out the Jeep, pulled a handgun and fired several times at the red sedan. The driver of the red sedan was struck in the lower back. Prosecutors said Daniels admitted she got out of her car and fired her gun at the other womanโs car at least three times.
Mother charged with intoxication assault after fiery crash is a repeated offender: Court documents
HOUSTON A magistrate judge reviewed a case Monday morning involving a mother accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a fiery crash that severely burned her son. Court officials said the six-year-old will likely die and the mother was given a $75,000 bond. Authorities said early Saturday morning 28-year-old Erika Long was caused a single-vehicle crash along the Grand Parkway in Spring. The six-year-old boy taken to UTMB via Life Flight while his mother was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Teare said Long has been charged twice before in connection to her six-year-old son.
DPS trooper charged with sexually assaulting woman while on duty appears in court
HOUSTON โ Lee Boykin, 31, took an oath to serve and protect as a DPS trooper, but he found himself on the wrong side of the law after being charged with aggravated sexual assault. Authorities accuse him of pulling over a woman, driving her to a parking lot and forcing her to perform sex acts. Investigators say he claims the sex act was consensual. He was arrested Saturday and posted a $100,000 bond on Sunday. If convicted of aggravated sexual assault, Boykin could spend 5 to 99 years or life behind bars.
Harris County eviction cases continue to mount as coronavirus threat, job loss continues
The state lifted its moratorium on evictions at the end of May and since that time, the number of evictions cases filed in Harris County court has continued to rise. Thatโs the situation Iโm in.โFrom southeast Houston to West Harris County, and from Pasadena to Humble, Harris County Justice of the Peace courts have dockets filled with eviction cases. There were 2,300 eviction cases filed Harris County just in the last month according to Princeton Universityโs Eviction Lab, which is studying evictions nationwide. Hepburn said despite historically lower numbers โ unlike other cities such as Boston, Cleveland or even Austin โ there are fewer protections for those facing eviction in Harris County. Karni said many people facing eviction donโt even know to ask if theyโre covered by the CARES Act.
Man accused of shooting at helicopters after an HPD helicopter crash back in court Monday
HOUSTON โ A man accused of shooting toward a Houston Police Department helicopter remains behind bars with a bond of $600,000. Deputies escorted Josue Daniel Claros-Trajedo, 19, into the courtroom wearing an orange jumpsuit and a mask. He looked at our cameras through the windows several times during the hearing and as he walked out. Claros-Trajedo is accused of firing several shots into the air toward responding helicopters after the deadly HPD helicopter crash in the Greenspoint area on May 2. He hid firearms in an air vent in his apartment after the shooting, according to court documents.

Woman accused of kidnapping ex-girlfriendโs son was left in charge of him while mom traveled for work, police say
Nicole Harrison, 30, has been charged with kidnapping after police said she took her ex-girlfriendโs son, sparking an Amber Alert. Prosecutors said she took her ex-girlfriendโs 10-year-old son to a motel near Greenspoint yesterday without the permission of his mother. The childโs mother told police her and Harrison had been together for eight years up until five months ago. The childโs mother said he called Harrison โdadโ all of his life. The child told his mom he missed Harrison and wanted to see her.
