KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse surprised 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships in 2024. Here is a look back on some of our favorite moments.

KPRC 2 proudly partnered with American Furniture Warehouse in 2022 to reward high school seniors who excel in academics, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and more. By the end of the school year, 21 graduates had received a scholarship for college.

The twenty-first $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Jake Webster who graduated from James E. Taylor High School in Katy Independent School District.

The twentieth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Marlen Moreno who has graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston Independent School District.

The eighteenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Catelyn Green who is graduating from Waller High School in Waller Independent School District.

The seventeenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Aiden Collier who will graduate from Willis High School in Willis Independent School District.

The sixteenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Anjie Liu who is a senior at Seven Lakes High School in Katy Independent School District.

The fifteenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Katelyn Kramer who will graduate from Magnolia West High School in Magnolia Independent School District.

The fourteenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Laura Branch who will be graduating from Grand Oaks High School in Conroe Independent School District.

The thirteenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Janie Fields who will be graduating from Wheatley High School in Houston Independent School District.

The eleventh $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Jaclynn Schwander, who is a senior at Dayton High School in Dayton Independent School District.

The tenth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is David Dzul who will graduate from Houston ISD’s DeBakey High School for Health Professions.

The ninth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Abrianna Mullin who will be graduating from IMPACT Early College High School in Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District.

The eighth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Emilee McCoy who will be graduating this spring from Kempner High School in Fort Bend Independent School District.

The seventh $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Adrian Saenz of Spring High School.

The sixth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Divya Shukla who is a student at Carnegie Vanguard High School.

The fifth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Sarah Doggett who will be graduating from Needville High School this spring.

The fourth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Nahomi Garcia, a senior at Columbia High School in Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District

The third $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Jarelis Hernandez, a senior at Anahuac High School in Anahuac Independent School District.

The sixth $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Grant Ebel from Magnolia West High School in Magnolia ISD. Ebel has been accepted to the University of Texas, where he will be pursuing a degree in biology with hopes of becoming a physician in the future.

The fifth $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Jordan McAlister from Klein Cain High School in Klein ISD. She has been able to maintain a 5.63 GPA and is ranked fifth in her class out of 848 students.

This academic year was particularly challenging because of the pandemic, but these students still rose above and beyond in school. The fourth $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Jonathan Hoang Nguyen from Clear Springs High School in Clear Creek ISD. Nguyen has been accepted to the University of Houston, where he will be pursuing a degree in biology with hopes of becoming an ophthalmologist in the future.

This academic year was particularly challenging because of the pandemic, but these students still rose above and beyond in school. The third $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Alexa Piedra from the Energized for STEM academy in Houston ISD. Piedra has been accepted to the University of Texas-Austin, where she will be pursuing a degree in philosophy.

The second $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Marissa Hanson from Caney Creek High School. Hanson has been accepted to Texas A&M, where she will be pursuing a degree in finance.

Gonzalez has been accepted to Texas A&M, where she will be pursuing a degree in agriculture and life science.

On Wednesday, a $2,500 Senior Scholarship was awarded to Elizabeth Ogolo from Elsik High School. When I was going through my situations and circumstances, I really had wished there someone there to help me. I thought If I was able to see something happening to someone else, knowing that I wanted that help, I just wanted to offer myself to help somebody else. If you have something going on and you need help, there is always somebody out there willing to help you. Just like I was able to find somebody to help, there is somebody out there that can help you.

HOUSTON – Senior Scholarships 2020 has officially kicked off. KPRC 2 and Texas Mattress Makers are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships. On Wednesday, the first Senior Scholarship was awarded to Alyssa Grover from Glenda Dawson High School. KPRC 2′s Christine Noël surprised the senior during her lecture. Alyssa also enjoys practicing piano, violin, and guitar, singing and performing with Ovation Theatre and EncoreChoirAlyssa enjoys volunteering at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Camp Counselor literary-based summer camp.

We started this program a year ago so we could highlight some amazing public school seniors, their teachers and their schools. Certainly a testament to the students and their teachers that despite budget cuts, our schools are still capable of graduating some extraordinary students. Let’s hope the proposed budget cuts for the next school year don’t limit our students.
