Parents of Northside High School students are urging the school to revoke suspensions or expulsions for 45 students involved in a walk-out protesting deportation efforts and supporting community solidarity.

Two people have been detained after a teenager was shot during an off-campus fight Tuesday afternoon.

HOUSTON – Northside High School is temporarily closing because of confirmed cases of coronavirus on the campus. Houston Independent School District officials said students will attend classes virtually starting Wednesday while the school is cleaned and disinfected. A total of four confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the school, according to HISD data. Two of the cases are students. Officials said the school nurse will notify any students or staff members who may have been exposed to coronavirus.

HOUSTON – As the need for food is expected to grow due to students starting the school year at home, Houston Independent School District is resuming its summer meals program. Families will receive packages of produce and other food items. Seven of the locations will be operated in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, allowing families to pick up several days’ worth of student meals as well as packages of produce and other food items when available.
